At about four 'clock in the morning of March 28, 1979, Reactor two at the 3 Mile Island nuclear power plant close to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania plant had a serious difficulty. At that early morning hour its non-nuclear cooling broke down and failed and cooling water began to drain from the reactor.
